Frances Vigars

I’m an artist and teacher, having studied at Bath Academy of Art and Cooper Union in New York. After 10 years teaching at Bedales School, I have time to develop my own work.

In printing I enjoy exploring hybrid printing using etching, screen-printing, collagraph, mono, dry point and lino. I like to explore the boundaries between print and painting. Using print techniques in my paintings and painterly marks in my printing.

I view my work as a journey, using any medium and tool to make marks. I enjoy working with colour and texture, playing with the conflicting planes and create pieces rich in layers of structure so that the more you investigate it, the more it reveals. I’m aiming for a balance between abstraction and realism.

My work is very diverse, I enjoy experimenting in many techniques and materials including, stained glass, photography, as well as more traditional painter’s media such as oils, watercolours, acrylics, inks, charcoal etc. I also exhibit with Hampshire Artists Cooperative, where you can find examples of my landscape paintings.
